Airgunners of Arizona June 15 Match Report

Mormon Lake, AZ

For all of you who were in the valley (Phoenix) in sweltering heat, you missed a great time! Shooting under the cool pines and live oaks is much more fun than running from your air-conditioned house to your air-conditioned car. Sorry, but I just had to rub it in a little!

Until clear blue skies the weather started out a little warmer on Match Day (Saturday) than on Set-Up Day (Friday). About 5 degrees warmer at around 75 degrees and warming to 86 degrees by the end of the match. The winds were uncharacteristically calm. Actually, non-existent at the start of the match. Not to disappoint, the breezes did pick up to around 2-3 mph later in the match; however, they were very consistent. There we a few periods of gusts lasting several minutes, unfortunately costing me a perfect score.

We had 18 optimistic pellet-tossers show up, and expecting to knock down all 24 targets twice each on 12 lanes. That's 48 shots so you don't have to do the math in your head. Unfortunately, we had one target; the far dove target on lane 4 that was pulled from its original anchor point part way through the match making it function inconsistently. Instead of removing points from shooter's scores everyone was given hits if the target didn't go down.

We had some shooters from times past show up, several of the old faithful shooters like me, and some new shooters show up to enjoy the competition. In addition, the club gained a new member and had a previous member renew their membership.

Once everyone did their best to harvest as many of the 48 metal critters as they could, I added up the results and forced everyone to submit to a group photo. After that we handed out club metals for the top finishers.

The course was left in place since several shooters said they wanted to shoot through again the next day.

In addition to the Field Target match on Saturday several shooters showed up to participate in a Chicken Little Match on Friday night. Here are the results:

Cole – 40
Carl – 39
Steve – 39
Luis – 38
Bobby – 38
Kent - 38
Barry – 32
Martin – 32
Ben – 28
Colben - 20

I want to thank the following members for helping me to set up the course on Friday; Barry, Martin, Carl, and Kent.  Barry also transported all of the targets from Phoenix to Mormon Lake.  Thanks for taking care of that, Barry.

President, Airgunners of Arizona
