February Match Report
February 21, 2026, Small bore range / BASF – Phoenix AZ Larry Piercy, Match director

It is winter in Arizona, which means you never know what to expect. We have had some really nice mild days with absolutely fantastic weather…..and then there was today. Today was ch-ch-ch-chilly, and windy, which made it feel chillier. Bright blue skies, no clouds, looked really nice inside your vehicle….until you stepped outside. Temps at the start of the match were about mid-50’s and only warming to low-60’s. Wind made if feel colder with humidity on the low 20% range. But that wind, which was coming right at you, was causing everyone to shiver. It just “felt” colder than what it was. The wind was anywhere from about 7 mph to the mid-teens, blustery, and shifting from various directions; NE, West, ESE, South, nothing consistent. Then, at the end of the match during awards, it was dead calm. Go figure.
We had 13 shooters show today. Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of them. I ended up hurting my back while helping to get all the targets, blocks, etc for today’s match set up. My brain still thinks I am 35 and invincible. My body knows, I am 74 and just laughs at me. I got to go home and make a chiropractic appointment, while the rest of the guys got to shoot. I will say there is a lot to be said for Tylenol, Icy-Hot, and bourbon…..not necessarily in that order.
And wouldn’t you know that the one time that I miss a match, interesting things happen. One guy’s gun went kaflookie, and broke. He had to switch to his springer back up, only to realize he left his dope sheet at home. Another guy was shooting, and his scope just fell off! This has got to be heartbreaking, and something no one would want to experience. Not sure how much good-natured crap these guys got, but knowing our crew, well…….
Here are the score and equipment stats;

I have to thank Larry, and Wayne, and Erick, and Jesse for supplying me with enough information to write a report. I am indebted….
