January Match Report - Founders Cup
Saturday, January 17, 2026 - BASF, Phoenix, AZ
Larry Piercy, Match Director

This is our first monthly match for 2026 and it is the Founders Cup match which
recognizes the 4 founding fathers of the club, of which, Larry Piercy is the only
one who is still actively shooting, is our club president, and is today’s match
director, as well. Yep, we put him to work. It was a wonderful day to shoot; clear
blue skies with not a cloud in sight. It was pleasantly cool; 59° up to 64° with
humidity in upper 20% bracket. There was only one thing that we could have
done without…
……The WIND!
Mercy, was It windy! The NWS forecast called for 5 to 15 mph winds with gusts
up to 20 mph. For once they were right on the money! It was brisk, it was
blustery, it was coming at up primarily from the north, but also NW and NE, then
due east and flip - flopping back and forth. I know I have used this term before,
but it was a real wooly-bugger! Don’t believe me; look at the scores! Better yet,
look at our poor targets. They got blasted! And to make matters worse, Larry set
up a course on paper that was a Troyer difficulty factor of 31.31. Not too bad, but
add the wind to that and the course was a 38.41 Troyer! We don’t always get
wind like this, but when we do, look out!
We did have 19 shooters show today to do battle with the steel critters, and what
a battle it was. In the end, only one shooter, Peykan Beyrami, prevailed, shooting
a 46/48! We don’t know how he did it, but he did. He and Barbara (43/48) were
the only two shooters to score over a 40! Here are the scores and stats…

Our next monthly match will be February 21, 2026. For the uninitiated, this is
Arizona, and we do shoot year-round. For that matter, we shoot a weekly TRAC
match, as well. Rain or shine, we have a canopy over our heads here at BASF, and
we certainly take advantage of it. We think of it as our weekly mental health
therapy session.
Respectfully submitted,

You know how they throw the ball into the crowd after they win the game?
That’s not allowed in bowling….
