February Match Report
February 15, 2025, Small bore range / BASF – Phoenix AZ Larry Piercy, Match director

We are on the small bore range this month because the pistol silhouette range is being used for the pistol silhouette state championship this month. That’s OK, because this is a different view with different wind patterns and today feels very springlike, although it is very VERY BRIGHT! You will notice that the accompanying pictures appear to be washed out. Imagine what it was doing to our eyeballs. Tough to rangefind.
The skies today were clear and cloudless. A bit of a change from the past few days where we had a lot of clouds and some rain. Not near enough, but some. We did have quite a lot of distant haze. The temps today were mild; 54° up to 63° by the end of the match and humidity dropping from 50% down to 36%. Quite comfortable. The wind was forecast to be “calm”. HA! This is BASF, so we always get some wind. Today, it was primarily out of the east, a full value but only between 3 and 5 mph which shifted around to the south and increased up to as much as 8 mph. When shooting, that is doable, just annoying, especially when it continues to shift direction.
The course today was 12 lanes with 2 targets per, for a 48-shot match, and with 7 of those targets beyond 45 yards and an estimated Troyer factor about 33 – 34 Troyer. One lane was designated as forced position, with one target being shot offhand and the other kneeling. Not overly hard, but challenging….and tons of fun.
We had 14 shooters for the day following Valentine’s Day, and we had 4 classes competing, with only a few ties, and all of the scores tightly packed together. Considering how often we have the opportunity to get together, the scores continue to get better and better.
Here are the scores and equipment stats;

Just a few quick notes for our upcoming club schedule;

The TRAC matches for the remainder of February will not be held due to the “End of Trail” cowboy action shoot competitions that will take up all the ranges on the west side of the BASF complex.
-
