July 2025 scores.jpeg

Twenty-four shooters converged under near ideal match conditions. Skies were overcast to mostly cloudy for entire weekend. (Note that participants arrive onFriday, set camp, and courses and stay until Sunday) Periods of drizzle were noted all three days, but not during the match. Temps ranged from 74° to 78° with humidity documented by NWS at 40% dropping down to 24%.  Although winds were noted on Friday during set up, the wind conditions for the match on Saturday were ideal;  4 – 5 mph, with the occasional gust between 8 and 15 mph.  According to MD Van Tucker, 8 lanes with 3 targets per lane were set for a 48-shot match. Van stated that the course was set “very easy”, as noted by the scores. They were expecting wind that did not develop.

Thanks are extended to Van, Barry, Kent, Andrew, and John for assisting in setting up the course.  Rather than sit around for the remainder of Friday, the guys normally set up a course of fire using rimfire metallic silhouette targets, with banks of targets set at 50, 60, 70, and 80 yards. They call this a “chicken little” match.

On Friday at noon, they set a course using only the chicken targets and called it the “UltimateChicken Little”. 12 shooters tried their hand at this with the following results for a 40-shot match;

15/40 – Rex J

13/40 – Bobby C

13/40 – Steve M

11/40 - Van T

11/40 – Kent G

11/40 – Ryan

9/40 – John

9/40 – Cole R

8/40 – Steve Q

8/40 – Andrew

8/40 – Carl F

7/40 – Franz

The regular Chicken Little match, using the chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams was shot later in the afternoon on Friday, with much better results;

40/40 – Bobby C

36/40 – Rex J

36/40 – Steve M

33/40 – Kent G

33/40 – Carl F

29/40 – Cole R

28/40 – Van T

27/40 – Ryan

26/40 – Franz

25/40 - Steve Q

23/40 – Andrew

21/40 – John

The main event was shot on Saturday morning under the conditions noted above.  With three perfect scores of 48/48, a shoot off target, using a ½” KZ target was set at 50 yards. It is unknown how many shots were fired to break the tie, but Cole finished in first, Rex Jensen finished in second, and Bobby Corcorran finished in third.  That has gotta be a hard pill to swallow finishing 2nd and 3rd and still shooting a perfect score.

Our next monthly match will be August 15, 16, and 17 and will be the ArizonaState PCP Championships and AAFTA Grand Prix. The Piston State Championship was contested back in April at Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix.  Registration can be done online by using the link in the club website; www.airgunnersofarizona.org
