TRAC match – September 15, 2020

The brief respite in the weather that we got last week was just that; BRIEF.  Under hazy skies with bright sunshine the temps at the beginning of the match were 86 degrees warming to 88 degrees by the end and with 26% humidity.  It felt warmer than what it was, and with the wind blowing, you felt…..”sticky”.  Speaking of wind, it was pronounced today.  Somewhere around 8 mph coming from between 1:00 and 2:00 o’clock.  It did die off towards the end of the match and was just “wispy”.  By watching the reset strings, sometime they bent a little to the left and a few seconds later, hung straight, only to be followed a few seconds later by really bending to the left!  Scores were in direct proportion to that phenomenon.

Seven shooters again today with old man Mike leading the way with his Thomas and a score of 37/40.  This was followed by Mark (Steyr), Barry (Brocock) and Ben (Redwolf) tied with 34/40.  Gene did well with his Redwolf scoring 31/40 but missing all of his offhand shots (29 and 38 yards).  Larry (Tsar) had 29/40 with Scott (Marauder) who was able to finally make it out and shot 26/40.  Good scores considering the windier than normal conditions.

No surprises today.  We set up our usual 5 lanes/2 targets per/shoot through once/reset targets/repeat.  After last week, and with the wind this week, the guys were not too thrilled about shooting the second half of the match standing.  We compromised and made only one lane standing.  It all worked out in the end and we got some good practice.  Ben even shot a few of the lanes kneeling, again, just for the practice.  We use the full extent of the target KZ’s also, one close at 10 yards and more than a few stretched between 48 and 55 yards.  Good practice for states.

Speaking of which, we have 30, possibly 31 shooters from 4 states that responded for this year.  If only 30 shooters, we will have 2 shooters per lane for the 15 lanes.  If more than 30, we will have 3 shooters per lane broken down accordingly. Regardless, it should be a good time.

See most of you on Saturday.  For those helping set up, we will see you on Friday.  If you get there on Friday, please consider registering then to save time on Saturday morning.  If you get there on Saturday, please register before heading off to the sight-in range.
